How-a-Car-Becomes-a-Junk-Car.-Sm

You might wonder that I have heard a lot about junk cars and how they are bad for the environment but how a car is considered a junk car, based on what factors a normal car becomes a Junk Cars

Mechanical Failures.

  1. The Engine of the car do not work whether it is blown or seized. Timing Belt and Chain also faces failure.
  2. The Transmission of the car fails, especially when repair cost approach the car value
  3. The car faces Electrical System Failures whether there are wiring issues, faulty computer/ECU, sensor failure in newer cars.
  4. Suspension and Steering System of the car breakdown.
  5. Repeated, recurring mechanical problems that signal the car is nickel and diming the owner.

Structural and Accidental Damage.

  1. The car has faced a Collision damage that is severe enough to damage the frame or unibody of the car.
  2. Since the car has faced collision, the air bags of the car are deployed which makes repair cost disproportionately high.
  3. Flood Damage that is considered a major cause especially after severe weather events.

Rust and Environmental Wear.

  • You will relate with this, Corrosion from road salt. That is relevant for winters.
  • The Rust of the car is affecting structural integrity, not just cosmetic surface rust.
  • If your car is parked for years without driving it once it will probably become a Junk Car.

Age and Natural Depreciation

  • If your car has high mileage it will reduce the reliability and resale value of the car.
  • The cars that are being discontinued by the maker will probably face scarce parts issues because they are discontinued.
  • According to modern Technology and Safety Features the car become outdated.

Economic Tipping Point.

  • You have to understand a core concept a car becomes junk not at a single moment, but when the repair cost exceeds car actual value.
  • Explaining the 50% rule many mechanics use if repair cost exceeds 50% of the car’s value it’s often not worth fixing. If we look at this statement closely there is truth in it because mechanics knows way more about cars than us.
  • Diminishing Returns, we are spending money on an old car with multiple issues rather than reinvesting elsewhere.

Legal and Administrative Factors.

Your Car Fails a safety inspection because the car is old enough. Emission testings are also conducted and if a car fails it, it is banned from the road because it does not meet the required emission target which is considered an entry point for safety.

If the car is missing or lost ownership documents this will complicate the sale, because this forces us to think about, is this car stolen, is this car legist to own etc.

Neglect and Lack of Maintenance.

  • The Oil Changes that you have skipped, the fluid maintenance that you haven’t paid attention to, the weekly check and maintenance of the car. By Ignoring all these important things the car faces premature damages.
  • Ignoring the Small Issues, sound from the brakes, crack sound from engine, issues with steering wheels, sudden shutdown of engines. These are minor issues if we pay attention to them quickly and if we don’t these minor issues become big ones and expensive to repair.
  • If the Vehicle is unused for a long period it will definitely cause issues like batteries dies, fluids degrade, seals dry out.
  • Wiring of the car is also crucial if it is ignored the car may face electronics issues.
  • If the tires of cars are not changed on time you can face a severe blast of the tire while travelling that can lead to major accidents.

Conclusion.

These are all the things that should be kept in mind. When a car crosses this line the, the owner realistic options are to sell it. Because that much amount of money to spend on the car is not worth it. If your car is weekly checked by Mechanic you are good to go and won’t face any issues with the car. If there are some legal rules that your car do not qualify for, it is also a sign to sell it because you cannot compete against the laws.
